Minister Ritz Announces Reappointment to Farm Products Council of Canada

December 3, 2021 - Ottawa, Ontario – Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada

Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz announced today the reappointment of Michael Pickard and the designation of Vice-Chair of the Farm Products Council of Canada (FPCC). Mr. Pickard’s reappointment to the Council is for a three-year term effective April 30, 2015. Biographical notes are attached.

Quick facts

  • The FPCC’s role is to provide oversight of the national supply management agencies for poultry and eggs, as well as to supervise national promotion and research agencies for farm products.
  • The FPCC is responsible for administering two federal laws, the Farm Products Agencies Act (FPAA) and the Agricultural Products Marketing Act (APMA).
  • The FPCC is composed of at least three and may have up to seven members who are appointed by the Governor in Council upon the recommendation of the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.

Biographical Note

Michael Pickard 
Mr. Pickard is a resident of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Formerly the owner of a broiler chicken operation, Mr. Pickard also served as a Director with the Chicken Farmers of Saskatchewan (2007-13) as well as the Chicken Farmers of Canada (2008-13). While with the Chicken Farmers of Canada, his contributions included serving on its Consumer Relations as well as its Finance Committees. Originally from Saint John, New Brunswick, he and his wife Jana have three children.
